Journalists don’t just dump files without verifying and double sourcing. Researchers looking through the Wikileaks dumps have found clear dizinfo … documents that have been altered with metadata timestamps / locations in Russia, or provably wrong information, etc. Of course those changes, in itself, may be targeted dizinfo to raise questions and discredit the leak itself (and wikileak’s publishing of it). Nevertheless real journalism don’t just dump and repeat what someone tells them. It’s why the international journalism consortium that was working with Wikileaks to actually develop stories out of the leak completely collapsed. Assange didn’t care about verifying the content or sources. A lot of the leaks just fell apart. And some of the serious leakers, like the massive financial Pandora Papers leaker, abandoned Wikileaks completely and dealt with journalists directly because of it. Assange was, for many leakers, a “useful idiot.” People that browse Wikileaks now and think “oh it must be true and valid” are just as gullible.
