I was raised not to be a racist, and I wasn't a racist as a child. However, the more I interacted with blacks and Hispanics, the more the anti-racist attitudes and assumptions I was raised with were eroded.
All the times I was physically attacked as a child, all the times I was robbed, threatened, and nearly shot as an adult, the relatives I have had raped, the multiple gunfights that took place just outside my door, the murders that have taken place with a block of me, sometimes within 60 feet of where I lay in my bed, the car I had stolen, the bike I had stolen, the insufferable disruptions at work, the endless beggars and scammers outside of stores ... all the countless awful things that have had happen to me and loved ones over a long lifetime, these things done by blacks and browns chipped away at the anti-racist/MLK dream upbringing until I am now an advocate of segregation making a comeback.
I didn't want to be a racist. Black and brown people worked overtime, for decades, to make me a racist. I was forced to be what I am now, and they forced that change. Experience with them did that, not ignorance.
