Back when the Soviet Union collapsed, there were "finders" who were selling some interesting things.
See, all the German equipment from the war was still out there, still in its transit chests, etc, just laying there.
So, these guys, they would go out on the steppe and find these places where the Germans were encamped. Shoot the machineguns, pistols, etc. Even the bigger stuff.
These "finders" had the old maps that detailed where such and such unit was camped, etc. They were invaluable in repatriating the dead after the Soviet Union went away.
And they made a handsome profit off the equipment and vehicles they found. All sorts of things.
So there were guns. Lots of them. Really nice ones, too - I would love to have an MP34 or StG44 or an MG34 - but nobody talked about it.
