Because of the importance of this duty, they are at the top of the primordial indian hiarchy. They are usually from the smartest and wealthiest of families and they marry with eachother so that the power remains in the same family.
Then we get to the body herders, also known as kings. Their role is to manage the inhabitants and affairs of the material plane. Because of the immense size of their population, they needed several ministers to help them, which were their own family members. And whenever the body herder died, civil war broke out and the minister that managed to win becomes the new body herder.
After that we get to the land protectors, or warriors. If the body herder is alive, they protect the mortals and if the body herder is dead, they help their minister in the ensuing civil war. There are instances when they make a grab for the role of body herder themselves, and if succesful, their family will now be in charge of the material plane.
Next on our list are the commoners. They live to serve the common good for the realm. If they are lucky and ambitious enough, they would work hard enough to elevate themselves to a higher rank.
And at last we reached the dalit. Their sole purpose is to be a prison for the wicked souls. Beware of the dalit, they corrupt the land wherever they go and it is the duty of every living being to contain them in the underbelly of society, where they can do no harm.
