Electrical engineer here. This POS snake oil software cannot even read through a fucking datasheet. It gets worse and worse every month. Fake equations, fake quotes, cant even simply list what a set of pins does, mind u its already in list form in the datasheet, it could litteraly just copy paste, it could fucking screenshot even and i would get the info i need. Instead it will give me fake info in detail..
I dont see this replacing anyone, ever, each new version they release is worse, the deep resech button give u even more fake info. Idk why it pisses me off so much, its like making my job 95 percent easier and faster is right at the tip of my fingers but I will never fucking actually reach it. All it has to do it read through a datasheet accurately and I could be a Rockstar engineer. I could be an entire engineering team on 20 hours a week.. I dont need it to deisgn shit. Just read through a datahseet and spit out the info that on it!!!! Just cntrl F and copy paste... One fucking job...

Especially once the size of the software grows beyond the context window. I've had Cursor and Claude straight up just start making up APIs that don't exist.

Yup. It can barely even handle excel. I asked it for help highlighting a filtered range for a conditional formatting. Twenty iterated isnumber clipped absurd faggotry over an hour highlighting irrelevant things in unrelated columns for no reason, when the answer was filter the data, push alt + ; and then set the rule with the range selected. Same with goddamned vbas, dont get me started on that 20+ hour ordeal. This aint replacing nobody. But it will babysit your feelings and be a therapist if you are needy.

if OP is an electrical engineer, then it's not easy predicting what his design will be, e.g. what wire or ports will be used next. I tried to make AI "learn" a bunch of spread sheets of ports and predict an obvious cell that would have the listed wiring port that's been reiterated a hundred times when configuring new hardware. It simply can't infer something simple. It's TRASH. You have to build your own machine learning model from scratch for this purpose. It's like when alphaGo just does some random retarded move

The weird thing to me about AI is how much they have been pushing for decades about AI charging everything and inevitably take over. Everyone bitching about the current state of AI is retarded. It’d be like complaining that intercontinental flights don’t exist in 1905, or being mad that the Model T can’t go 100mph in 1920. The technology isn’t perfect, but it’s borderline sci-fi shit. Sure it struggles to innovate or work on some specialized tasks, but these robot fucks can pump out college level essays, form arguments, and are getting increasingly better at math. Saying that AI is snake oil because it can’t perform at the level of an electrical engineer with a bachelors-masters is pretty near sighted.
In reality, it’s only going to get better. Not just from the size of models, but improvements to architecture and implementation of closer analogs to actual brains will create massive improvements and enable emergence of new abilities.

You're using it poorly.
It's an auto complete tool with lots of useful tricks.
You do not rely on it to "reason" or do math, you rely on it to write you the best, most coherent mathemathica syntax for example then you compute it separately there, 99% of times it's just perfect for your usecase and it can tweak it further, explain it properly and fix any issues with just 25% of it explained.
