Because it wasn't Japan that was insane, it was the leadership that was in a state of internal civil war. The leaders of Japan are ashamed that they not only failed but that their personal honor being wiped was the direct reason why Japan thrived. Literally how. Japan had no chance in hell of ever making a nuke, whereas the US could keep making the damn things. How the hell do you fight a nation who was the sole owner of nukes, had the capacity to use them, a president who was happy to use them, and no international pressure to not use such things as no one even knew what the hell they even were at the point.
