Jesus defended an adulterous woman from being stoned to death, but afterward he told her to go and sin no more. as in, QUIT SINNING. she had to admit she was a prostitute, and that it was wrong, and that she didn't want to do it any more.
so for a Christian to forgive a sinner, it would be after they've encouraged them to repent. the whole goal is for EVERYONE to become holy and pure. and yes, that means the dirtiest and worst sinners are celebrated the most when they are purified. because thats a greater victory than some sinless person just saying hey i think Christ is pretty cool too.
but just because love and forgiveness are the fruit of the spirit, doesnt mean we have to tolerate or condone all sin. it can only be condoned in a meaningful and transformative way once the offender wishes to be condoned.
