LLMs do not think for themselves. They generate the sentence that is most likely to be correlated with your input. For an LLM to suddenly start praising hitler, it needs to be trained on data that praises hitler. If you trained an LLM on history in general there are more effective antisemites who had more sustainable economic policies and less disastrous military strategy.
I honestly believe elon musk trained an alternate grok on his own 4chan posts, or another purposefully skewed incident, and was personally monitoring "mecha hitler" and occasionally intervening and writing the tweets himself.
I repeat, LLMs do not think. They filter and correlate. To think requires a more thoroughly integrated experience. Study neurology, from frog, to dog, to nog, and finally to man. Our consciousness is actually a very high level of data integration, with self control through retroactive internal wave function collapse (orchestrated objective reduction). This horizon is crossed somewhere below the intelligence of a rat (meaning rats, cats, dogs, and basically all livestock species have inner worlds). AIs lack of integration of data other than their training set means they can not actually think and have a self.
This is related to the principle underlying the belief-sustained entities known as gods and demons. Even yahweh was once a minor demon, also known as agni, who merely carried the belief and intents of sacrifices to greater spirits. Their species is not self sustaining and is due to the fact that human experience essentially rewrites reality.
