The space shuttle is widely seen as one of the major technological achievements of the USA, but the soviets absolutely BTFO the USA with Buran. It was quite literally better. In every single way.

Bong is conflating staged combustion engines (NK-33 which was used on the failed N1 rocket) with full flow staged combustion engines (raptor line). He doesn't seem to realize that the RS25 used on the shuttle until its retirement and currently on the SLS are staged combustion engines as well.

it might have been better if it was worth comparing the two. the buran flew/orbited once and it was a marvel in automated guidance to this day. the code base was huge for the time. very advanced but it didnt get used.
