>>510005249There's another pathology hidden in there, humility isn't submission and acting good, it's being aware of our weaknesses and vulnerabilities first and asking for God's mercy for them, we can't rule and save ourselves by behaving in a certain way.
Just like how that Pharisee was boasting of how kind, good, philanthropic and obedient he was and God wasn't having it because he saw the pride hiding behind it, only God is good and all mercy comes from him irregardless of our previous deeds. Whereas the customs guy knew he was a scumbag and wasn't arrogant and boastful about the good deeds he might have done, it's all yet another lesson of the hard narrow path.
So what's the right way? "Father, this guy is raping your son, show mercy!"
