What helped me was keeping my heart open to God and being honest with the type of man I was, am, and will become based on my own actions. I didn't like where I was and the way I was going. My actions were harming the people I cared about and I was lost. I ended up in a really dark place, and tried the one thing that I rejected for the longest time: Forgiveness. I forgave those who wronged me, forgave God for the hardships placed in my path, and, hardest of all, forgave myself for my own weaknesses and failure. I decided to be the man I needed when I was a kid, and it's pretty mundane overall. No big happening, no angels descending from the heavens to save me (outside of a mental break I had lmao), but I'm happier than I have ever been, and things that used to drag me down became the wind in my wings so to speak. Just recognize that you are limited and imperfect and do your best. This probably reads like a bunch of platitudes and bullshit, but it worked for me, and it MIGHT work for you. Hope this helps.
