The wavelength for red is the largest Visible one and it reflects more than the others off the atmosphere as the sunlight passes through the earth's atmosphere when the moon enters the earth's eclipse. When this happens, the moon turns red for 100 minutes.

The earth's atmosphere acts as a prism which bends the light into all of its rainbow colors. The one that bends the most, the top-most color of the rainbow is red, and this is the color that predominantly lands on the moon and comes back again as the regolith reflects that red rainbow color the Earth's atmosphere produced.

Basically you're seeing the Earth's rainbow on the moon.

It's not a true blood moon. It's the sunset reflecting on very bright white stormclouds half a hemisphere over. The moon will pass out of its zone quickly.

>Why is the moon red?
The same reason the sky is blue, Rayleigh scattering.

It's not a lunar eclipse nor a partial one- atleast it's not supposed to be during this time of year. Either the meteorologists fucked up or canada's atmosphere is donzo. It's probably because the moon just started rising and was near the horizon
