Israel is obviously not trying to kill all the people in Gaza, and the high rate of civilian deaths is due to lots of factors, so it’s hard to say how much is due to something like unusual levels of malice.
It doesn’t seem very likely that the population will soon be moved out of Gaza, but that could happen, and some in the Israeli government would like that.
It doesn’t seem like the kind of situation I’d normally call a genocide.
It seems like it being called a genocide has the effect of associating the war in Gaza with situations where worse things were done in the past so that our emotional reaction to Gaza is disproportionate to the facts concerning it.
And that seems bad.
