Pilot leaf here

One of these two things happen

1. They had an engine failure and they shut off the other engine, this has happened many times thatโ€™s why before doing any action we are required to climb to a certain altitude (usually at least 1000 feet AGl) and then we have to confirm with the other pilot before shutting off the engine to confirm itโ€™s the right engine

2.pilot suicide, he shot off both engines on purpose to die kek

Okay but then who is in control? The pilots or the computer? If this is the case, itโ€™s pilot error, they arenโ€™t even allowed to do anything before climbing to 1000 feet, so they made 2 mistakes 1. Doing anything before climbing to a safe altitude
2. Did not confirm the right shut off engine switch

It seems accidental. The exchange makes it seem the one who did the fuckup didn't realise they did it and the switches were flipped back on before it crashed. One engine has sped up, the other had just been relit and was getting up to speed at the time of impact. If they'd have had maybe another 5-10 seconds, maybe they could have got out of the stall.

The thing that's really weird is that the switches were flipped a second or two apart when indicated a deliberate movement rather than brushing a hand against it. What was the pilot thinking he was turning off/on?

>>510120569
Boeing have already had multiple crashes from computers trying to help the pilots. If both engines are on fire, they may need to cut the fuel so the plane won't explode ASAP, there are lots of shittily trained pilots out there and you don't want them to have to memorise over-ride sequences or dig out the manual for what needs to be something instant.

The problem is predicting every single possible outcome of a very complex machine with multiple computers and thousands of moving parts and millions of stationary parts. And the possibility of 2 irrational humans doing literally anything wrong. They have to make some assumptions to simplify things one of them is that the pilots are following the checklist.
Now it's going to come out that if he did shut off the fuel that the plane was blaring a warning and they either ignored it. It didn't go off or, Or it did go off but at the worst time during take off when they are most distracted and the one pilot that knew what it meant couldn't do anything about it because he was distracted flying.

I have flipped one of those types of switches with my glove on accident It got caught you only have to pull them out slightly to get over the llittle protrusions. Also I don't know about this model but if they believed that they had a double engine failure for some reason actually did and the checklist for re starting tells them to flip those switches to off then that also might explain the movements.

If it was due to an engine failure, they wouldโ€™ve waited until 400ft until they do memory items, at least thatโ€™s how itโ€™s done in the 737, also they was no sigh of an engine failure from outside at all, youโ€™d immediately slam the rudder to fly straight if that happened and it wouldโ€™ve been very visible in the video, I think it was a deliberate action to set both engines start levers to CUTOFF, because it happened simultaneously just after liftoff

pilot shouldn't be allowed to turn of engines *during takeoff thou, reasonably, a plane is not the same as a car even thogh it can very well kill you, there's literally no excuse to let this kind of option to the pilots, until they reach safe altitude where they can follow up on engine issues, I think the same thing happened with flaps settings not being configurable by pilots past a certain angle as they could voluntarily stall the plane because this occurred in several accidents in the past, it only seems reasonable that you would not allow the user, pilot in this case, to involuntarily or voluntarily put the plane in danger

Pretty sure those crashes were caused by a failed angle of attack sensors causing software to try to dive the plane into the ground. The software was not known to the pilots so they were confused over the plane suddenly becoming suicidal.

Plane crashes are the result of a cascade of failures and miscalculations, not one mistake that causes everything.
Just an educated guess in this case, it was probably a mechanical failure or the appearance of one that led to a series of bad decisions due to incompetence or ignorance from inexperience.
Even experienced pilots who are well trained to handle emergencies make mistakes, so inexperienced pilots in a emergency situation is a dangerous thing. Usually these airlines are trying to save money and do shoddy maintenance or lie about the training that their pilots have.
We won't know until the cockpit voice recording becomes public.

congrats, you either just sacrificed at least 10x the number of real humans to save a couple of jeets or developed an autopilot system that does away with pilots and makes you a billionaire (it's the former btw).
>I think the same thing happened with flaps settings not being configurable by pilots past a certain angle as they could voluntarily stall the plane
You're probably thinking of certain flight control modes in fly by wire planes, but those really only protect against (some) involuntary stalls. They've also directly caused a number of crashes but prevented many more, so they're still in use

The overarching lesson here is DON'T TRUST JEETS WITH ANYTHING

"THAT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN, NO ONE WOULD EVER DO THAT" DOES NOT APPLY TO JEETS

Not messing around with the fuel cutoff switches is a 30 second lesson, it doesn't take 1500 hours and captains bars. Have you ever gone on the highway and tried to shut off the car while driving? Of course not, because you're a basic functioning rational human being. NOT A JEET, A JEET DOESN'T THINK LIKE THIS, IT DOESN'T THINK AT ALL.

THIS IS NOT AN ACCIDENT. NO ONE'S HANDS SHOULD BE ANYWHERE NEAR THE THROTTLE CUTOFF SWITCHES AT THIS TIME. The Pilot flying has hands on the yoke and only touches the gear handle after takeoff. NOTHING ELSE. At this point, flaps don't even come up yet. The autothrottle is handling engine power, and between 400-1000ft typically the autopilot is engaged, depending on the departure/operator instructions. Sometimes a pilot will hand fly the whole departure above 10000ft, but that's rarer on these long haul routes.

YOU AIN'T TOUCHING BOTH CUTOFF SWITCHES ON TAKEOFF SIMULATANEOUSLY UNLESS YOU ARE SUICIDALLY RETARDED OR A JEET, WHICH IS THE SAME THING.

JEETS HAVE THE SMALLEST BRAINS ON EARTH. THEY EAT SHIT AND HAVE SHIT FOR BRAINS. THE CAUSE OF THIS ACCIDENT IS JEETS. THE CAUSE OF INDIA'S FILTH IS JEETS. THE CAUSE OF ENSHITTIFICATION IS JEETS. THE CAUSE OF JEETS IS JEETS.

The pilots have the ability to kill you at any time just by disengaging the assists and pushing the nose down. So does any car truck or bus driver. The only difference between takeoff and cruising is how long you have to scream to the ground. They don't because they're functional human beings with a vested self interest in staying alive. But in this case they were JEETS.

All things considered, you never want an automatic system locking out pilots from manual control in unusual situations. That's exactly what happened with the 737 MAX.

If you don't think it's jeets doing the coding, you fundamentally don't understand that even if the 1.0 was written by white men in the past 15 years there have been hundreds of patches pushed out by jeet H1b interns who can't even use the wiki because they can't associate meanings from separate sentences to string together the necessary concepts to prevent runtime errors because they very literally have an 80IQ. These are people fundamentally unable to follow line by line directions because they cannot conceptualize completing a series of tasks to a standard in a specific order.
People who continually underestimate the inability of the mentally retarded to maintain civilization because of an -ism are part of that problem.

the reddit thread about this has this comment:

>Without linking it to the cause, the report says US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) had in Dec 2018 issued a Special Airworthiness Information Bulletin (SAIB) โ€œregarding the potential disengagement of the fuel control switch locking feature. This SAIB was issued based on reports from operators of Model 737 airplanes that fuel control switches were installed with the locking feature disengaged. The airworthiness concern was not considered an unsafe condition that would warrant airworthiness directive (AD) by the FAA.

>The fuel control switch design, including the locking feature, is similar on various Boeing airplane models including part number 4TL837-3D which is fitted in B787-8 aircraft VT-ANB. As per the information from Air India, the suggested inspections were not carried out as the SAIB was advisory and not mandatory. The scrutiny of maintenance records revealed that the throttle control module was replaced on VT-ANB in 2019 and 2023.โ€

so maybe this model of jet had safety switches not installed from the factory and this stupid pajeet flipped both as some sort of stupid ritual knowing that both of these switches usually have a lock and would stop it. the level of stupidity here is off the charts.

but the report says the switches were switched off with a 1 second gap in between which makes me think he purposely did it and the locks were working correctly.

Yea, even if the lock "fails", the lever needs to be pull and it takes some physical effort to pull. The chance of both lock fails and the lever pulls at the worst time possible (within the few mins) that the lever can be pulled to make the situation unrecoverable).
That's like finding someone getting shot twice in the back of the head and assuming that maybe it was from an accident from a gun failed safety switch.
