U.S. energy firms this week cut the number of oil and natural gas rigs operating for an 11th week in a row for the first time since July 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic cut demand for the fuel, energy services firm Baker Hughes (BKR.O) said in its closely followed report on Friday.

The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output, fell by two to 537 in the week to July 11, the lowest since October 2021.

No they increase and decrease the amount of oil they produce all the time. Thats why the price of oil fluctuates over time, supply and demand. If they increase the supply with no demand then the price of oil goes down. If the demand spikes and they can’t ramp up supply the price of oil rises. The price of oil also rises during middleastern conflicts like with Iran and Israel.

They didn’t want to spook the markets and trigger panic so they told Saudi Arabia in advance to spike their oil production to effectively provide padding for the panic that increased Israel Iran tensions, and in exchange Saudi Arabia gets some military equipment at a discount from Uncle Sam.

When the price of oil spikes people assume it’s because something is wrong, so you front run it with cheap oil in order to mitigate panic.

Don’t get me wrong, something is absolutely 100% wrong with the market, but most people can’t tell, which is “effectively” the same as “no problem”. It’s an out of sight out of mind trick.

The economy’s is still setting up to crash within the next 6-9 months though. I think that’s why Jerome Powell is resigning.
