I used to work at one of them as a store manager. They when under within one year. The CEO was all about big ideas like selling store brand t-shirts for 20$ plus tax. the profit is only like that because it's a family business, we own the land (so no rent), and we employ creative accounting + skimming a bit of the cash off the top.
