I worked for a company that was formed by a bunch of white christian investors out of Little Rock, AK. They bought like 100 or so gas stations and proceeded to run them. I used to work at one of them as a store manager. They when under within one year. The CEO was all about big ideas like selling store brand t-shirts for 20$ plus tax. Raised prices on everything by 35% on average. Didn’t pay attention to little things like ordering stuff that people buy. Plus the spic district manager was stealing money because he would just carry bags of cash out to supposedly deposit them but won’t ever look at the books or daily sales numbers which kept plummeting.
Gas stations and convenience stores are low margins businesses and require a lot of attention to small details. White people just don’t handle it well.

the profit is only like that because it's a family business, we own the land (so no rent), and we employ creative accounting + skimming a bit of the cash off the top.
it's not like i get paid the full worth of my hours. we show the minimum and roll cash into other investments, and have verbal agreements about payouts when we end up selling. it's a trust-based system between the family and that's the only reason it works.
