Aircraft carriers are WWII technology. Americans bleating about how they're the apex of sea combat are like the European great powers bleating about how the battleship was the apex of sea combat prior to WWII. Everyone sincerely believed it and just about everyone was wrong except Japan and America; America deleted Japan's navy and now we rule the world because of it.

Nothing stays the same. The idea that 80 years later the carrier would still be the absolute best bang for your buck; especially with the modern pace of tech; is retarded. If the Russians are scrapping their carriers that means you should think twice about your own. Russian military is blooded now in a way American military hasn't been since probably Vietnam, they probably know something we don't.

They know that swarm tactics and drone warfare is the future. No carrier task fleet is going to be able to ward off a flight of 1000-5000 drones lauching missiles and shit at it plus hypersonic missiles coming down at speeds faster than what radar can detect from.

Carriers are obsolete technology, the future is drones that daisy chain perpetually in the sky via drone refueling planes.

Russia is focusing on nuclear Icebreakers, they seem to believe the future lies in the frozen north
The Yakutia was finished last year, the hull and reactor for the Chukotka are done, the leningrad and Stalingrad are planned for after the Chukotka is done.
And a as yet unamed super nuclear Icebreaker, know only as project 10510, is already being built, it's twin reactors are finished and they already got started on the hull, it'll be the biggest icebreaker ever, beating the previous record of the russian Arktika class nuclear icebreaker by about 40 meters.

NOOOOO don't decommission insanely overpriced worthless ships that can be destroyed by a swarm of drones/missiles for 1/1000th of the price. Aircraft carriers are equivalent to battleships in WW2. They are absolutely worthless in modern warfare powered by AI missiles and drones. USA military is outdated and stuck in 100 year old methodology. Russia is adapting.

It makes sense for Russia to scrap their carrier. It's been an expensive disaster and their real pride is their battlecruiser. They never intend to fight the US with a carrier. It's never been in their strategy. They have to fight the US navy in an asymmetric way. But really people the whole hypersonic missile thing is just shilled by people who want to see the US lose a war.

Aircraft carriers only truly have one purpose since Korea: fear projection.
Their presence brings anxiety to all local forces. Fighter-bombers, helis, launch pads for amphibious assault and C&C for joint force operations.
A floating airfield with a hotline to the Pentagon. It strikes fear in the hearts of all who dare oppose it.

And then an RC pilot with a cigar punts a hole in the hull and accidentally the bulkheads from 300km inland using 500 drones in erratic and irregular kamikaze strike patterns every 10 minutes.
Cost of drone operation: $1m per battery
Cost of carrier when it sinks: $billions, ego, reputation, shitposts all over 4chan, utter humiliation

The way weapons are developing, and some people already know of DEW, you don't want capital ships unless there's a way to deter the less-than-physical ordnance.

I thought the advantages of a carrier is that it allows you to apply a traveling forward base of operations. Allowing for the conduction of aerial operations with the advantage of being able to move and redeploy locations of attack flexible. Even if we see manned aircraft replaced with mass drones I whould think having a mobile airstrip whould become more useful then before, given the large space they provide. The steam catapult may become unnecessary which whould be pretty funny I guess.

I'm not sure your particular drone model would work either. The japs sent drones (piloted by men) with 2000 lb bombs. They didn't stop the fleet - and those were WWII era ships. Modern designs are certainly more hardened.

the carrier groups move at least 30 knots and nobody knows what their evasive maneuver speed is. They have so many tools to deal with missiles. They always have a cruiser and destroyers escorting them along with submarines. For the enemy to find a carrier group it's like searching for a needle in a haystack in any body of water. All the while, as soon as you attack the carrier group, the carrier knows where the attack came from and can retaliate.

This has to be one of the craziest COPE I've ever seen here. Today there is no combat fighter that exceeds 1,500 kilometers of combat operational range. And air superiority is a key element to winning modern conflicts, no matter how many drones you have, a plane can do things that a drone cannot. Being able to mobilize a squadron of fighter jets to any part of the planet is key for any country with a minimum capacity for power projection. Fighting without air superiority or at least without a minimum response capacity on a modern battlefield is crazy, as was demonstrated by the Iraqi army when it was literally devastated by the USAF less than 25 years ago, or by the Israeli air force a few weeks ago, when it attacked hundreds of targets in a country that HAS DRONES AND COULD NOT AVOID THAT ATTACK ANYWAY. If Russia cannot repair that aircraft carrier it is probably because they lost the capabilities to do so or because they do not believe it makes sense to have one, after all in a war scenario with NATO it would be literally impossible for Russia to dispute control of the sea.

I dunno I'm sure a navy fag could answer that one, but I think they basically go silent and have a very secretive network of communication when in combat. Also I would imagine those missiles are not guaranteed to hit even on a stationary target.

aircraft carriers are a meme. if anything actually ever happens. one will get sunk and then all the others will scuttle off back to their home ports to await scrapping. there might be room for some kind of specialised launch platform in the future e.g. a submersible drone launcher, but the days of the general purpose aircraft carrier are numbered.

why even blow money on a fucking navy. seriously. the USA should just build massive assault weapons on the coast with percision missiles and tactical nuke tipped and just end the US Navy and build a larger Air Force and have Army on hand if we're ever invaded. which I doubt we would ever be.
the USA should just have air and refueling and just use B2 or Missiles to attack nations who fuck with us.
nays are a waste of money. who the fuck wants to fight in the ocean anyways? its a waste of billions.

I laugh @ Russia but the US has abandoned aircraft carriers for a reason. Chinks are retarded and copy everyone else so they still think having a fleet is relevant in modern warfare. Look at the Houthis. All it takes is one modern missile and your ship is toast. We don't have the technology other than US laser defense to counter a literal standard 2025 missile coming straight for your stationary ship. America doesn't invest in boats or tanks anymore, it's been full blown missile and defensive tech for the past decade.

First off, all carriers are not equal. The British carriers are not very advanced at all. They are glorified escort carriers. American carriers have no equal. The only country with a carrier that comes close is the French and that thing is still tiny by comparison. Also by your logic, the US should have quit fighting with carriers as soon as they lost the first one in WW2. Or even the British. Complete nonsense. If the US lost a carrier, they would build more of them and faster.

I think she's too old to be kept afloat without destroying her. The Constitution has and entire oak tree forest owned by the US Navy just to keep her in replacement timber. Britain has less than 200 operational main battle tanks. I doubt they have the money or commitment to do something like tat for the Victory and it's a damn shame. She's a magnificent ship of the line. It's going to be a sad day when the shitskins deface it and put the torch to her along with the chapels and cathedrals.

They'll just equip them with lasers.
The timeline is 25 years give or take, at that point lasers will have progressed to the point where drones, even MIRVs are functionally obsolete.
https://toughsf.blogspot.com/2025/05/the-laser-revolution-part-i-megawatt.html

Until then drones won't provide any better anti-carrier capability than missiles did already.
And hypersonic missiles are cost prohibitive if the enemy possesses layered defenses, like all carrier strike groups do.
Drone swarms are either cost-prohibitive or too limited in range.
Simply put, carriers are drone HQ platforms with much greater range and strike capability than the shitty V2 wannabes Russia and Iran are producing.

As for why Russia is getting rid of its carrier, it's simple.
Putin has reduced the defense budget. Russia doesn't need an aging smokestack aircraft carrier.
It's only there for prestige, the only useful capability are the P-700 Granit launchers - but these are ageing and outclassed.

2002 Milinium Challenge was a US War game where a simulated Iran was able to destroy a carrier group via suicide boats and cruise missles. Utilizing surprise and an overwhelming amount of projectiles to overwelm sensors. In fact the games went so poorly for the Amarican team they shut the games down and scripted an American victory. So who know we might see a carrier go down due to command arrogance and conceit.

CSG defenses are capable of stopping hypersonic missiles, they are just less reliable in that case.
If I remember correctly the common estimate was that you'd need at least 3 well placed hits by a 3M22 Zircon to sink a US carrier and that it would take you at least 20 missiles hitting simultaneously or in very short succession to achieve this.
The entire Russian navy had around 40 3M22 Zircon missiles last year. And they are reportedly firing them at Kiev. So I doubt they have many more now.

This is retarded. The Kuznetzov is antiquated, over budget, and riddled with problems. It's been that way since they docked it for repairs. It should've been scrapped long ago but they keep it for pride purposes and I doubt they have the resources to make another or even want to. Russia's naval doctrine is not based around aircraft carriers, and really there's no reason for it to be. Russia has a weak navy that's more about defense than projection. The US is the ONLY force to have a coherent carrier and naval doctrine based around projection. Stop treating the US as the standard, it's just dumb. Wtf would the Kuz even do? Russia fights land wars, they're a land empire. It's like the Queen Elizabeth, wtf does it even do? Sail around and then get humiliated when it has to get a tow?
>air superiority is a key element to winning modern conflicts
This is US doctrine. Pretty much no country can count on actually getting air superiority other than the US. Israel claims they got it but still ended up relying on the US to actually achieve their strategic goal. Every NATO air operation has been completely supported, funded, and planned with the US in mind, the other nations just supply the bases and a few of the sorties. Moreover, Russia is not gonna get air superiority over NATO with one carrier. Even in Syria, they just built an air base rather than operating out of the Med. The result was the same.

The age of the battleship ended with the carrier. The US kept them around long after everyone else, for power projection. Battleship armor was always thick enough to withstand hits from it's own sized main guns. Russia likely sees that ship as a money pit, and a giant bullseye.

The US has been working on this since the fucking late 50s, and you don't think the US is well aware of drone warfare and swarming tactics?

>No carrier task fleet is going to be able to ward off a flight of 1000-5000 drones lauching missiles
What's stopping the CSG from frying them with HPMs? Also, 1000-5000 drones able to carry missiles and target a CSG are going to be 1000-5000 expensive UAVs unless you want them zapped out of the sky.
>and shit at it plus hypersonic missiles coming down at speeds faster than what radar can detect from.
Not possible. The CSG all have extremely capable radar able to track an ICBM class warhead (mach 25) which enough resolution to discriminate between warhead, decoys, and rocket debris and engage or pass that data onto GMD interceptors in the US.

>Carriers are obsolete technology,
Then why is China building them at an ever-increasing rate, with them pretty much copying the US super carrier as their design to copy, as even Ping Pong with his slit eyes can see the US super carrier is still the future.
>the future is drones that daisy chain perpetually in the sky via drone refueling planes.
The US has been toying with the small UAV air refuel the other small UAV idea for decades.

By shooting it down, you utter fucking retard. How else do you think? The AEGIS system is literally designed to take out hypersonic missiles with their own hypersonic interceptors. A layered defense is having your carrier surrounded by AEGIS equipped ships linked in to a just about every US high-powered radar around the coupled with the massive space based early warning system with SM-3s for exoatmospheric intercepts, SM-6 for medium range intercepts, SM-2 and ESSM for closer last effort ranges. The space based early warning IR sats can spot a BM as soon as the booster lights off for launch and track that missile through the air well before it's any danger to the CSG, that data is feed to the CSG in real time, allowing their radar to be searching for that missile as soon as it leaves the ground practically.

American marines allowed themselves to be captured by Iran, Australian marines refused to surrender and abused the fuck out of the Iranians over radio. Americans crashed their sub into a Chinese sand dune, Australians sailors evaded two US dragnets and abused the American navy over open coms for being useless cunts. We gunboated China and didn't give a single fuck, America got rammed by a Chinese cargo ship and cried about it. Australia still lives up to the legacy of white naval power.

Next week during talisman saber we're going to sink a Chinese spy ship and let the Chinese capture our treasonous prime minister. If he wants to visit China fuck him, he can stay there

I don't think the Navy would be sending friendly signals out during an actual war, or at least spoof the data to where it makes you seem somewhere you're not. Russia did this before, and it's not too difficult.

USA needs a Navy because we're an island. It's army that is optional. 95% of active duty army should be turned to national guard. Leave training units, transfer NBCR to other branches.

Similar argument for air force: turn 90% of it to air national guard or navy, leave missile command, training units.

Return marines to naval infantry roots, put under the navy. Return to Mommy's wings.

As for hypersonics: lidar.
