Depends.

If you sacrifice your life to save someone else’s, is it because you’re that selfless, or is it because you couldn’t bare to see them die because of how it would make you feel after?

Or is it because you assigned them to a part of your ego and identity, so saving them is like saving a part of you?

Or could it just be instinctual, like a natural reflex as opposed to a conscious thought?

Or is it not so much because you value them, but because you care so little for your own well-being that if you die it doesn’t mean much?

And if it’s because you have tied your ego to them, is that itself selfish or selfless?
