You need to understand about technology loss, is it happens immediately on ceasing production of any product. Supply chains quickly disintegrate. External companies which supplied various parts move onto other things and eventually disappear. All the skilled workers who hand built various parts grow old and die. Crusty old documents are not enough. After 50 years close to nothing of the original technology is salvageable, it needs to be all redone from scratch using modern design and manufacturing processes.

It is not "lost technology" we don't have the industrial base or work force with the right skill set to build 1960s rocketry. We can build new rockets but they will never be the same as the old ones. Also though we have the blue prints each rocket at that time was custom made with many tweeks and notes that went with them that are now lost. So even if you built a rocket to the exact measurements it wouldn't be able to fly without the right configeration.

When that was settled, we went back a few times and realize that there's no real point to sending humans back there at this point. If we want, we'll just send remote rovers to scoop up some rocks or monitor things. There is no reason to spend the resources to put humans in danger for basically no benefit.

We simply had a race there once which is understandable but you dont go back to a barren wasteland for nostalgic reasons. Thats what the pictures and recordings are for.
