Iran obviously needs to develop nuclear weapons before the US follows Israel's bidding and invades them

They did fuck all for Iran. If I were Iran I'd let China know I was planning on trsting a device and see if they had problems with it. If they say it's not their problem go ahead and double down on supporting their MIC while frantically trying to get the bomb. Probably wouldn't test unless another air campaign happens again.

It actually went quite well for Ukraine for 20 years. I don't think Iran would last anywhere close to 20 years if they gave up their enrichment capability

If Iran doesn't make a bomb they're fucked. See North Korea.

Realistically, if Israel and Saudis don't have nukes (at least officially) Iran should claim to not have them either. That will balance out the region.

People exaggerate the relationship between Iran and Russia. There are too many sources of friction for there to be a deep relationship

* The OPEC+ collaboration is extremely important to Russia, especially with the major swing producers KSA/UAE
* Russia's relationship with Turkey is important. They do a lot of important trade, and it would be quite inconvenient for Russia if the watermelon seller decided to stop respecting the Montreaux convention
* Putin speaks about Israel as if it was the 84th federal subject of Russia
* Russia delayed delivery of a handful of S-300PMU2 batteries to Iran for a decade, because they were afraid of angering the US
* Russia still hasn't delivered the Su-35 squadron they're said to have agreed to sell to Iran, probably because *someone* is exerting diplomatic pressure behind the scenes

The strategic partnership Russia and Iran recently ratified has no defense clause.

Also, even if Russia was willing to sell more weapons, they're already quite busy with domestic and Algerian demand

There are similar problems with China, albeit not as much as with Russia. China loves GCC money and they are the longstanding supplier to KSA's strategic missile force. China likes to have Iran stand firm as a bulwark against further US influence into the Eurasian interior, and China is willing to help prop up Iran's economy in defiance of US sanctions, however any major weapons sale by China to Iran is unlikely.

They could have just disassembled them and used the plutonium/uranium cores.

Classic case of "there are no allies or enemies in geopolitics, only shared interests".
It would be in Iran's best interest to bomb up defensively asap, whereas it's in Russia's best interest to play Iran/US/Israel against each other to further distract from Ukraine.

If Iran listens to Putin, they will be weak and invaded by the US in the coming years.

Putin is competing with Iran for oil exports and would profit from a destabilized Iran, though he would not want it to actually fall to the US or else the US and Israel will gain control of Iran's resources. So he's trying to thread the needle of getting US to invade Iran and entangle itself there, at which point he'll 'support' Iran militarily to keep it on life support. US' focus will be on Iran at that point and fewer eyes will be on Ukraine.
But he'll still have the EU problem that is now gearing up for total war.
Either way we're getting WWIII.

Oh and also that military support would mean he'll get to charge Iran for buying Russian weapons for his military Keynesian economy that he's shifted Russia to.

it's the kind of suggestion kremlinoids gave to Saddam, Milosevich, Gaddafi, Assad and others. It always led to the destruction of their countries.
NK ignored that suggestion and now it is an unbreakable fortress that can glass ZOG with the press of a button.

Iran needs to detonate 5,000 tons of dynamite underground. Everyone will think they have a nuke and stop fucking with them.
