>>510204035>>510204131>wealthy enough to seek avoiding US extraterritoriality>poor enough to dgaf about current and future UK wealth taxesweird but ok.
the form fulfils the goal but is not technically necessary, I just explained this to you.
if one is doing it for tax purposes then it's presumably in one's interest to let the IRS know what's up before the fact, instead of trying to establish it in tax court, which requires paying first and making a claim. hence the form.
I get the impression you actually know all this and you're just embarrassed to walk back your first incorrect claim.
as far as I (random unqualified anon) know, the law is not reciprocal. if a foreign citizenship ceremony requires you to renounce your U.S. citizenship, even in the absence of U.S. officials or your previous form, you may in fact be found later by an american court to have renounced your citizenship.
this is not the case for other countries including the UK (but I haven't checked recently). in the american naturalization process, the US requires you to renounce allegiances. some countries treat this as a renunciation of citizenship and others do not.
assuming you can figure this all out, I hope you enjoy becoming a 'subject' of an underdeveloped country, and a citizen of none.
