Earth is a multi-aeon property rights dispute. The creators of the planet (call them cosmic realestate developers). had two client races, a race of what we can only describe as molluscan-insectoids, and a race of lizards. The former being the first priority as the first investor. They bought in for a chance at replicating their civilization. This is essentially how high level civilizations reproduce. It is their ultmate goal. The cosmic developers already have over 500 child races and closely resemble a domesticated dog with purple compound eyes. Late in the planets creation, the insectoids missed a payment, and their genetic seed intended to create their "child race" was permanently nerfed. This is why arthropods can not grow large and molluscs have nerfed lifespans. The insectoids threw a hissy fit because their payment was actually arriving a few milennia late due to a supernova and covertly directed an asteroid towards earth, cutting the evolutionary line of the predetermined fallback (reptilians) short. Hyperintelligent theropods were meant to build civilization, not, as the "lizards" (they are more similar to archosaurs than squamates and are warm blooded) call us, "elongated rodents, failed reptiles". As revenge, the reptilians have been covertly attempting to sabotage humanity and doom us to a path that results in us losing the ability to create a high level civilization, so they can demand the developers re-elevate the archosaur lineage.

Furious, the M-I and "R" civilization are both making covert attempts to destroy not just humanity, but dogs, which they believe are the future developer child race. The developers will not reveal which part of the kingdom of life is actually the seed of their 562nd child race and no one actually knows from where it will arise.
