true. i became homeless because covid lockdowns and medical reasons in 2020. two weeks on the street and then into a shelter. it wasn't perfect but it was better than nothing. i was put at the head of the line and had section 8 in a little over a year. all you have to do is not be drunk, on drugs or have severe mental health issues. even then, there's lot of help avaiable for that too. at least there was in 2020 in the greater los angeles area.

the ones i knew in the homeless shelter had severe childhood trauma. sexual, physical or both. they started using drugs and alcohol because anything was better than feeling the way they felt. eventually they became addicted and ended up feeling a lot worse but by then they couldn't quit. it's a fucked up cycle and nobody is looking at treating the underlying trauma that caused it in the first place. almost all of them were fucked up when they were still children without any real choice.

I was homeless. Not like doing drugs at train station homeless, but I stayed at a homeless shelter for a winter, and slept in a tent in the forest for like 6 months following that.

I did it because I wanted to help homeless people. I thought that they were abused by society, which is true, but now I just think they should overdose, and take a majority of society with them if possible.

I deal with a lot of junkies and they are completely harmless in my experience, they can appear threatening because they are loud and shout to each other but they are harmless. If someone if visbly off their head it's common sense that you are not going to go near them. That's only the short-term solution. The degradation of the family unit in the United States is a big factor, and shit like a decline in education has been making it even worse. There should, in a just world, be enough housing supply in any city where you can get a condo or a starter home for ~200K, with first time home buyers getting exclusive right to buy in selective new neighborhoods. i don't live near downtown, so our bums are spread out in certain areas. we tend to call them heroin ally or whatever. the areas where you find addicts, and lower class types. the thing is i dont live in one of those areas, and several months ago one of the bums started standing in the intersection right by my neighborhood. he seems so out of place there. but hes there.. all day.. every day.. 97 degrees outsides, doesn't matter. he walks up and down the median while the light is waiting to change. i rarely see anyone give him anything. i gave him a cold bottle of water once but thats it.

they all seem to have the same thing going on. they look healthy enough to work some kind of job. they also seem to put on an act when they walk.. its the sad puppy face mixed with a stiff legged sort of pirate walk.

and the thing is cops never say anything to them. you'd think these people standing in the middle of an 8 lane road on a 2ft median would be a hazard to be dealt. but we let them do it. and sure i care in ways, theres nothing i can really do about it i'm struggling to get by myself, i can't afford to support their addictions.

the problem is a lot of them either can't or dont want to be helped. and its not so bad for some of them depend on what area they're in. around here its like being homeless in the shire or something, theres many shaded wooded areas for them to camp in at night.. i think they even squat out of an old closed down restaurant.. which is annoying and really brings down the whole area. a condemned building with bums getting high and shitting inside of it.
