Why do boomers show so much empathy towards everyone but their own? Are they just broken people? Or are they trying to make up for the lack of good they have done in their (personal) lives? What is it?

It's really nothing more than a flex or virtue signal that was fashionable among white Protestants, along with the usual guilt/savior complexes and plenty of narcissism.

Performative empathy costs them nothing.

They don't even have lives outside of their jobs. If they're not working themselves to death, they look to make problems elsewhere.
