I started occasionally using weed in 2017 and it was beneficial every now and then. But by the time covid lockdowns hit I started using it nightly (~40 mg edibles). I combined that with porn and my dopamine system was nuked. I had the effects of adult onset ADHD, I couldn't focus on anything during the day and my career nosedived. My memory was a mess.
I'm presently 2 months clean, my longest time off since before covid, and am in a good place now. I do believe THC if used in moderation is better than alcohol, and I believe someday I can use it again in moderation (my rule will be it has to be used socially, with other people present, not alone). The nights on THC were good fun and certainly turned the oppressive Canadian covid lockdowns into enjoyable experiences for me. interesting. My theory why weed stops working for a lot of people around their mid 20s is that is because the brain completes developing.
When I was 18-23 or so I loved weed. It felt awesome.
Around age 24 or 25 it stopped working for me overnight. Instead of making me feel dreamy and comfy, it made me feel anxious and uncomfortable. Self conscious. I started worrying about things I would normally never worry about. I felt sluggish the day after getting stoned.
If weed still felt awesome I would likely still partake once in a while, but for me it does nothing positive anymore. Every time I've tried it again it sucks.
So either some people's brains just grow out of it, or maybe personal mental/spiritual development makes it stop working. Because your default state is above the effect that weed can offer, weed starts to make you feel lower instead of higher.

Well yeah, im technically an alcoholic if you were to ask a doctor but it really doesn't affect my life for the worse.
