get creative, just make sure it is sound proof and signal proof.this is what it takes to silence your cell phone mic because of audio enhancement software and variables implemented through back doors to record sounds even when your cell is turned off and inside a Faraday bag (which should scare the shit out of people)
test for yourself in how difficult it is to silence these mics in cell phones and other devices: iPads, Android tablets, Alexas, whatever with microphones short of de-soldering and removing them from the board entirely which is not practical for most people.

A steel box, like a cash box, is sufficient to block all of the signals incoming and exiting your phone. Putting it in another room is sufficient to block all of the sound the microphone could hear. Putting the box near something noisy like the air conditioner too.
This tube-in-tube thing is silly. Maybe of you wanted it to be sound proof and on your person but a thicker metal box would work better than that anyways.

you should see the separation anxiety these types have from being detached from their phones for more than 5 minutes when entering my home once in a while. (as all phones are required to go into my black hole upon entry)

I personally have the WiFi and Bluetooth card removed from the one "smart" TV I own, and use canvas blockers for web as well as jammers and all kinds of other things to play cat and mouse, when I want to. I never used social media other than for information gathering purposes over the years.

well as much as mine stays put away it does seem ridiculous at this point, but modern life without a smartphone is pretty difficult.
emergency calls, blending in with employment, mapping directions, McDonalds app heh and blending in with society in general. If it were up to me all cell phones would be thrown into the ocean and we would all go back to POTS lines. This is just a cheap practical way of silencing your mic when you need to, and as the other anon stated there are a million more ways "they" (whoever your they is) have to watch you.
