And Trump's terms from the beginning included security guarantees for Ukraine (i.e., 100,000 European troops deployed to and stationed in Ukraine). There was never any chance that Putin would agree to that. Peace was off the table from day 1 of Trump's second term.
The peace Trump wanted was never possible except through continued war. But Trump had to do the show of "trying for peace" so he didn't look like he was directly following Biden's policy from day one. But the "trying for peace" was all for show. The administration knew there was no chance that Putin would agree to peace with security guarantees.
The last 6 months have been a put-on. Trump was a war hawk from day one, but he lied about it.
