hey man
go work on a fishing boat or oil sands for like a year
- no rent
- no costs
- pure profit to invest or do whatever with

downside obviously are the conditions and you will have to get rid of your pet, but if you're stuck in a situation like this then you need a big change and injection of raw capital, and without rich parents or a windfall, you have to make it happen yourself

Seems your doing pretty good to me. Let me guess, you *NEED* more? Why? You could easily go traveling the world after saving up for half a year. Or whatever else, buy new gaming PC. Whatever you want, what's the problem?

Alright
true poors advice incoming
>cut toothpaste tubes and scrape out the remaining toothpaste, you'll save an average 1 tube/year doing this
>dilute soap with water/put water in "empty" bottles. again 1 free bottle of soap/year
>cut old clothes into rags, use them for cleaning. save on cleaning supplies
>stop buying plastic grocery bags, I have bought maybe 5 plastic bags in the past 4 years. I use backpack, but you can use canvas bags or whatever. MASSIVE savings in the long run
>get a floating electricity contract and use electricity when it's the cheapest (mostly at night)
>no barber
>learn to sew, old curtains make good pillow casings etc.
>potato peels can be used to make homemade chips
>open oven door after use, save on heating
>make sure windows are sealed properly, if not seal them, save on heating.
>forage for food, mushrooms, berries, herbs, roots. maybe fish if applicable.
Just of the top of my head

Wait a minute wait a minute, I thought healthcare was free in Canada? What do you pay +30% taxes for if not free healthcare? And how on God's Earth are you spending $500/month on FOOD? I eat fast food literally every single day and I don't break $300 US, let alone whatever your funny munny is worth.

cont.
>if you're into coffee, boil it twice
>only cook food at home, never eat out
>bake bread (!)
>foraging cont. Nettles grow in canada, they can be used to make soup etc.
>you can also grow food at home, even a small apartment
>no gym, go lift logs in the woods instead
>you can do gig work like mowing grass or snow plowing for elderly people etc.
As a general rule:
1. when buying stuff, buy the more expensive item that will last longer
2. use it until it breaks
3. try to repair it (if successful, go back one step)
4. if not successful try to repurpose it
5. recycle

the problem with living in the city when you have a job in the city is if you move outwards, the savings in rent are offset by tolls, insurance, car maintenance, and parking.
i commute to mit and i'm just fucked for working there.
guess the only solution is change jobs now that i'm thinking about it outloud
