traveling is a show of status whether it be in wealth, or intellectualism
you gotta have money to travel a lot
and if you travel a lot that means you've seen more of the world so that has to mean you're more cultured even if you spend most of your time in a hotel only talking to other hotel guests or tour guides
it is also just an escape from boring mundane life even if what they're doing isn't much different from what they'd do at home
