Some South American states used to be wealthy place for their time and obviously west aligned so you could technically call them first world, like Venezuela in the 1940s-1950s.

Original meaning of the terms:
First World: Western bloc of US and NATO
Second World: Eastern bloc of USSR, Warsaw Pact, China
Third World: Non-aligned countries.
The most developed western countries were part of the first world, and the least developed shitholes were part of the third world, so that is how those terms are often used in the post Cold War era, but it isn't what they actually mean.

I was in the Netherlands last weekend and was shocked by how much whiter it is than the UK. Honestly kinda envious. Also everything just seems to work over there, public transport is punctual and the streets are super clean. It's as though we left common sense behind a long time ago.
