Simple explanation anyone with a IQ above 80 who thinks about it for 2 minutes would come up with (if we grant the premise that a lot of rich/powerful people are implicated and the whole thing is being buried) is that it implicates a lot of important people of all political views. If there's blackmail on prince Andrew, Dershowitz, Trump, Clinton, Bill Gates, and the list goes on and on... Nobody in position to do anything about it is going to want it to come out. And you can't exactly scrub the names you want to protect off the list because if someone like Gates, for example, goes down, he probably himself has enough dirt he could start flinging around to make the whole thing come to light.
If you and 19 people you know - 10 of which you dislike - all decide to kill a hooker and you get away with it, are you really worried about any of them out of nowhere revealing the whole thing?
