If they where willing to die they wouldn't be forced conscripts.
Personally, first thing i'ld do is go AWOL. I got a gun, a little training and at least a days ration. I'm a ghost at the first opportunity and give anarchy a try. Rape and pillage as I want until my numbers punched. Gonna die anyway. Might as well make a game of it to keep moral up.
