All meme aside some peasants in southern China like Guangxi never feed dog as companion animal. Dogs are seen as just one of the living stock like pigs, chicken etc.
In some places the animal status is weird. It is just like how India worships cows (even cow dong is holy) and muslism especially hate pigs etc. It also does not only happen in Asia. The switzerland also eat dogs before you can search on it.
