Iran is backing a resistance group in Syria, IRFS. There's also a popular resistances movement because of all the holocausting HTS and jihadists without borders does. Iraq does not back anything. It is an occupied country, but the Iranians have a ton of influence. Nearing failed state status. Also, there's tons of infighting because the Syrian government is a mutt fabrication. Literally. Chechens, Lybians, a bunch of excons Globohomo rescued from Saddam's prisons, and a ton more who got airlifted out of central Asia that were causing problems in Xinjiang and such just before they toppled Assad. When Globohomo breaks a country's regime, it backs all major factions that compete for the prize. The major factions bleed themselves out fighting, and increasingly depend on globohomo support. Then globohomo moves in, fully supports a single group, and liquidates the rest. This is what happened during the Mexican revolution. They backed Madero to replace Diaz. Then they backed Madero's general because Madero didn't want to cut out the Germans Diaz was friends with. Then they backed a bunch of warlords to completely cut out the Germans and all Euros and plunged the country into a mess. Villa in the north and Carranza in the South were the important ones. They chose Carranza and betrayed Villa later on. That's why Villa attacked the US. Eventually the US got Obregón to whack Carranza from within their government because Obregón was the more willing US puppet.
