From my understanding, it's at the level of the EU forcing phone manufacturers to let you replace your phone's battery again. There's zero downsides whatsoever, and it solves a modern problem that previously didn't exist by simply allowing the consumer to regain agency over their purchased products. Seems perfectly good to me.

I don't really know the exact solution they're presenting, but mine would be to just ban DRM and clear up legality of abandonware. If they're trying to force publishers to host downloads of a game for eternity that's pretty stupid. Idk if that's the case.

They made CNC4 so shitty that you have to deal with broken older games and fuck with the settings, or buy the ""new and remastered "" editions with minor graphics upgrades and no hardware upgrades to compensate for larger computers and abilities to do more.

CNC generals on today's hardware is all you need, but they won't ever do that because they can sell you a new edition every few years versus having one solid reliable game that can support 8v8 and not crash instantly, a feat perfectly possible given the games are older.

Maybe the least you could require is that if a developer is going to stop hosting downloads for a game, they must provide a DRM-free copy and those who already purchased the game are allowed to distribute/download it. Also, if a developer is going to stop supporting a multiplayer game, they must provide either provide server software or make the game open source to let people make their own server software.
