Funny thing, no diver uses those anymore. Dive computers do everything a watch can do but they’re better and can do additional things since they’re programmable.

And is probably cheaper too.
I enjoy those old wristwatches too, but they are not relevant anymore, because of computers.
And a wristwatch is just a mechanical computer of sorts, but very primitive and useless in comparison with even 20 years old calculators.
These companies mistake is keep fixated on wristwatch when less people are interest every new year, even with social media.
What people want is a good clock in their homes, those chink quartz cheap clocks are dogshit and keep on losing time over-time.
Instead, they are still focus on that, if they want to double down they should at least try to create a more complex mechanical computer.

Yeah, a good dive computer doesn’t even cost $1,000. In fact, you could get a complete set of scuba equipment including a dive computer for less than the cost of OP’s Rolex kek. They are just pieces of jewelry now sadly. I think they were really cool devices for scuba enthusiasts in, say, the 1970s. But now it’s for niggers and Indians to flex on each other. And obviously no nigger or Indian is ever going to actually use scuba gear.

This more or less, I have never owned a $1000+ status watch but I wear mechanical movement auto-winding watches with reliable movements (my current is a Citizen) and like... why do you need more? Unless you're mingling with a very specific type of person, the vast majority of people you meet are sufficiently impressed by a nice Seiko watch and it ties together your suit perfectly fine. I sort of understand the obsession with status symbols, since a watch is one of the few things it's socially acceptable for a man to splurge on, but at the same time why do you really need anything beyond a functional, clean timepiece that you can get for $150-300 from Seiko or Citizen?

Also for the people who say "but you have a phone" - you are ENTIRELY missing the point of owning a wristwatch. It's not to tell time (although it IS useful for that and much more subtle/less rude than looking at a phone) but rather it is a socially acceptable accessory for men - you cannot wear jewelry like a woman can, but you are allowed a watch and that allows you an outlet to express yourself
And for nicer watches that use Automatic movements and not cheap Quartz, it's about owning what is essentially a piece of art. Sure, you can wear a cheap rugged Casio watch and I respect you if you do because it's a nice utilitarian watch that gets the job done at a good pricepoint, but if you're wearing a really nice automatic movement watch with a Swiss movement I can appreciate that there's real craftsmanship in the timepiece you're wearing. If you actually value that craftsmanship, and aren't just wearing it because "Muh $8000 watch" then it reflects positively on your character and I sort of trust and respect you more as someone who can appreciate the finer things in life

i dont understand watchfags. im convinced the people who buy them to flex have the mentality of poors - needing to show of their most expensive toys to feel any sense of worth. i have a rolex clone that looks just as nice for formal occasions and gets compliments from time to time, but i have a smartwatch that costs as much as an iphone. not because i use to flex any sort of status as i fully expect no one to know or care, but because i actually want and use the features.

jewelry is gay and no one cares except other fags.
