A ~650cc motorcycle will cost 10k new and 5k used, will get 50+mpg (better than all cars), accelerate faster than 80% of vehicles on the road, and cost half as much and be much easier to maintain
The world does not need more wheelpods. Ban single occupancy cars on public roads, they are an abomination.

In the mid 20th century we felt comfortable leaping into cars because everyone assumed prosperity would increase infinitely forever. But one of the biggest downsides of car infrastructure is that it's extremely difficult to downgrade to a different system if prosperity ever decreases. A streetcar infrastructure for instance can safely downgrade to bicycles and walking if for some reason the streetcars can't be run anymore (which itself is unlikely), those methods will be more annoying but they'll still work. But a subdivision and strip mall infrastructure is so spread out that it can only be traversed by car, so if the cars ever become too expensive to own and operate (which can happen easily), the society simply ceases to function.

It's a system that fundamentally lacks resilience compared to walkable infrastructure based around trains for long-range travel. When prosperity decreases America can't just safely become poorer, it has to suddenly and violently fall apart.

They're not. Interest rates are through the stratosphere, and dealerships have so much inventory they aren't even making deals like they used to. That Accord used to be 25K just 5 years ago. You'll be paying $600-700+ a month. For a mid tier vehicle. You can forget about owning an Acura unless you make 100K a year.

And if you think this is bad, the used car market will give you daymares.

Just owning a car is becoming rich people shit.

You can easily shove a weekโ€™s worth of groceries in a backpack and tank bag, and those physically unable to operate a motorcycle really shouldnโ€™t be on the road to begin with.
In a sane society, people who have to take Kayden and Brayden to lacrosse practice would be allowed to have nothing larger than a Camry/Accord or equivalent, and you should need a CDL to own a pickup or tow anything.

Honda has always tacked on 10k more than the vehicle they tried to copy (goyota vehicles usually). Sounds like its 20k more now. Just buy used, the mandatory safety bullshit on new vehicles are a dealbreaker. unironically BYD and Great Wall motors cars are superior quality than anything to have ever rolled out of Detroit. Its frightening how well they are put together. Speaking as someone who works for the Big Three. There is a reason they are banned, we couldn't compete. A base model would cost less that $5000 USD and gets 400 miles a charge. Its fit and finish are seamless and reliability reports from markets say nothing but positive things

poverty is cheap
everything is expensive because you allowed the manufacuteres and dealers to think they were justified in raising the prices.
you allowed them to create an environment of unsustainable planned obsolescence in order for them to raise profits.

the old school cars you could fix at home with simple hand tools, now you need specialized tools just to find out what's potentially broken, then order parts specificly tailored for that specific model of car.

you allowed this.
we had a good thing with the old school carburetor, and now you can't afford anything.

Kei truck design is the best IMO, but I don't see why we have to keep bailing out the nigger car industry. When I was a kid my dad refused to buy anything but American. I can't even fucking describe how many fucking problems we had growing up with American cars. When it was my time to buy a car I bought an old camry. After that my dad switch and we've bought nothing but Toyotas since the 80s.

The real shame is that modern Toyotas went the same way as American car companies out of greed. They already had bullet proof car designs. Then they got greedy and fucked their shit all up. Every fucking modern car is a POS.

I bought an old Silverado and am learning how to wrench on it with YouTube. The thing is incredibly simple to work on. I plan to run it forever since parts are cheap and I'll be able to scavenge parts from other trucks when they stop making new parts.

SUVs are specialty cars. If you want an affordable car, you get a sedan.

Based /n/ truther. Cars rely on high wages, cheap gas, and cheap cost of living. Boomers thought the good times would continue forever so they ripped out our existing transit network of streetcars and trains. Every city in this country was connected by trains, and every city had a tram network going to every neighborhood. All of them. Now today most of these places are lucky if they have a single bus line. They fucked us. They fucked us over, for what? Why? To make us into debt slaves.
