Look into his military career. He got into Congress and then used his position to get himself promoted in the military, all the way up to Colonel, which is the rank he retired at after already having been in Congress for a long time. Many of his medals are also suspect, and he had to retract claims of having been deployed to combat areas. He did a bit of time in the Air Force as a paper pusher in the JAG office and then shirked his duties by saying being in Congress was more important to the nation than him going to work at the Pentagon (despite still collecting a salary and benefits from the Air Force).
