In the past kids would often want to leave home. In many homes when its no longer possible to force a child to be in school parents would give the child an ultimatum. Go to school or get a job. Many kids chose to quit school and get a job. This is all a relic of the past in a prosperous empire.

Every state has some form of tenant's rights law, and requires an eviction order to force a tenant to leave. Depending on the state you live in, it may take a very long time for your parents to actually evict you, particularly since they presumably have no experience dealing with the eviction process and will probably make mistakes that get their request for an eviction order denied a few times. And if they try to physically remove you from the house or change the locks without an eviction order, you can sue them, potentially for quite a lot of money.

In any case, you'd have plenty of time to finish high school and get some other living arrangements lined up, even if that's just joining the military or something.

The systematic destruction of the multigenerational household and the rise of the nuclear family which ultimately led to the single parent household was the downfall. Grandparents waste their time and fortune on travels or in a nursing home. Children spend their freetime on the internet instead of being cared for by grandparents who would also pass their values to them. Parents are estranged from their children because they have to work all the time to afford basic necessities.
