Mike Judge makes comedy out of existential sadness. None of the adults in that show are happy, even Hank though he has a wife and a son is constantly flummoxed by their behavior and has a relative living with him that he didn't want, he has his life together more than his friends but it's still out of his control and the only solace he has is his job. You can see it at the end of the title sequence he has a look of sadness on his face. All the guys in that show have sad lives, that's where the comedy comes from
