My dad actually did this trip (and back) in the 1970s and was not caught by Soviet BP. It’s very difficult and icy, you can drown in minutes if you touch the water. Your muscles will spasm and freeze while you claw at the ice trying to escape. There is a lot that goes into an expedition like this.

Why don’t you try illegally migrating into another nearby country instead? Walk through the forests in Arctic Finland and you should be good. Hope you speak good Finnish and know how to blend in.
