yes, much of history is embellished or outright false, because the "sources" we have aren't direct and may construe the message for political reasons in their time, or the sources they used were hundreds of years in the past (that are now lost to us). it's impossible to know anything for certain prior to the enlightenment since writing and reading were not a thing common people had access to, and was largely only the realm of the priests/nobles.
