The difference is that the Democratic Party in 1828 still exists and Democrats today are members of the same organization as the Democrats of 1828.
The NSDAP was terminated and outlawed along with all affiliated organizations in 1945 after the end of WWII. A "Nazi" today cannot be a member of the NSDAP that the original Nazis were members of because that organization hasn't existed for 80 years.
