Plot twist. EMTs were calling from the moms phone because she was being taken to the hospital. She ended up dying after being put into emergency surgery and that phone call was the list time he would ever get to talk to her

she probably did hear the phone but expects everyone to believe she didn`t. to some people a lie they expect should be believed is the same as the truth. that would explain and justify her husbands response, which is otherwise nonsensical. another explanation for her husbands response would be that he just has anger issues and explodes over everything, which she says he hasn`t done before, which could be another lie.

or, assuming she is telling the truth, her husband is in the wrong. running water produces a lot of white noise. depending on the distance from the phone and how loud the phone is this could be a valid excuse. also he could have taken the phone into the bathroom if he was expecting an important call, but maybe had had no reason to expect an important call so maybe thats not a reasonable response, which would have triggered his anger.

he may be having just a really bad day and a nervous breakdown where you either end up having a panic attack or a rage attack. that happens.

but frankly his responses make little sense unless she`s lying about her side of things, which seems most likely. especially the part about wishing he never married her, that seems kind of random without a past history of frequent such annoyances or recurring anger issues on his part, which she says isnt happening.
