While it's possible this ultimate being is an amalgum of all consciousness, it's not the only possible outcome. For example a society is an emerging complex structures with rules and wants and needs, but it is not destructive to human individuals (in most cases).

As for the immortal souls, I'm more on the side of material souls that are inherently "mortal", but that at least one chain to the way to the ultimate being will be able to make immortal. In the same way your cells work together to sustain you but aren't an amalgum.
If you experience of existence is only material, the only thing you'll see after you die is when you wake up after this being has come to existence.
