>ITT we discuss why we should or shouldn’t tax the rich more

Not taxing the rich is one of the greatest injustices we’re witnessing in this country. The rich of today are not the rich from the 40’s. Yet while they were getting taxed 90% of their income, they still managed to maintain wealth and even grow it. Why can’t the rich of today do the same? The rich of today have a greater access to global markets, have a wider variety of stocks to invest in, have more land/property to invest in, crypto, and now with the introduction of AI, even greater opportunities await them.

They keep amassing their wealth with investments, tax loopholes, and other sleazy tactics that the poor can’t take advantage of. Because of their continue growth of wealth, the middle class has disappeared entirely, due to the massive wealth gap between them and the poor. All in all, these motherfuckers need a tax rate of at least 70% and no income tax for people making 125k or less. I believe this will revitalize the middle class, which this country desperately needs in order to survive. I don’t think this country can exist without a proper, healthy hierarchy of wealth.

The top 10% paid 72% of total income taxes. Yet they continue to gain more wealth. While the rest of Americans are pretty stagnate on the economic scale. How about you explain to me why they should pay less taxes? Are you still a believer of trickle down economics? Every sane person knows that shit doesn’t work. The highest tax bracket is 37%, I’m sure they’ll do just fine by significantly raising it. Not to mention they rarely pay that amount because of all the loopholes they exploit. So tell me, why should they pay less?

It worked last time. In fact, the "golden age" of the 50s that so many dipshits here dream about had a 91% tax rate at the top. And even then they had plenty of loopholes and deductions and most of them could bring that down to less than 50% in practice.

You realize you need capital to invest right? I’m sure a tax lawyer knows those tactics very well. The state isn’t “stealing” money from other people. What they should be doing is using that money to pay for necessary things and lowering debt. That’s a different discussion. What I make and how much I paid in taxes is entirely irrelevant to the conversation, it doesn’t change the fact that people in the “middle class”, which I consider myself to be in, along with the poor, are stuck in an economy that will inevitably fail. Not only due to retarded shit that the government wants to pay for that rarely helps the American people but also because of the massive wealth gap that continues to increase.

Do you have adequate comprehension skills? Where in that post did it seem like I believed trickle down economics works? It doesn’t work. That’s what our economy is practically based on. Which is the entire point of this thread. You act like there wasn’t a point in time where the rich weren’t getting taxed far more than 37% and yet they ended up doing just fine.

Are you kidding? Thanks to advancements in the FinTech ecosystem, you could purchase some NFT's to reduce your nominal tax rate to 0% if you aren't already carrying forward capital losses. NFT's exist to exploit the same loophole that billionaires do concerning intangible assets and taxes. If Bill Gates donates a Picasso for $1 mil to one of his charities, he gets a tax receipt for that same amount. Similarly, When I buy a $30 NFT, "appreciate" it by $30, and donate it to the Salvation Army, I get a tax receipt for $60. That is literally the only reason why NFT's exist at all. That is their primary, overarching purpose. They are not investments. They're tax sheltering vehicles. When you use them as they were designed to be used, you get to benefit wildly from it.

Why fight the system that props up the wealthy when you can learn the game, innovate, and use all of these things to your advantage. It's those loopholes that allow corporations to donate to political candidates, influencing the outcomes of elections. Even if you ran as a grassroots candidate, without corporate support, you're toast my dude. Just play the game like everyone else.

Also, even if you do somehow mnage to gain power amongst these impossible odds you have, instead of paying your tax, the billionaires will just leave the US instead of paying it. Capital controls won't do much since legislation takes awhile to get passed. But good luck man, you'll need all you can get.

Tax the wealthy. It's fucking simple. We are a civilization. We do not live in the jungle. The law of the jungle is competitive, the law of civilization is cooperation. The more you gain from society the more you need to put back into it. Unless these rich faggots want to build their own roads, their own infrastructure, they need to be taxed. Unfortunately, there is the grim reality that our government is insanely corrupt and there's no guarantee these taxes will go to help anyone. In order to fix this country the wealth disparity needs to be fixed and our government needs to purged of these greedy parasite politicians and private firms. Also - why the fuck do we need to give the military one trillion dollars while American citizens can't make ends meet or have access to acceptable healthcare?

One rich person doesn't use anymore road than a poor. One rich person usually doesn't use any public school services but pay extraordinary property taxes that go mostly to the public school system used by the poor their entire 12 year education. One rich usually invest in military contracts servicers that bolster the military throughout the world. A poor just reaps the benefit of security of a ready standing military and doesn't even bother to enlist to give something to the security.
Security, infrastructure, education. That is the govt.
Poors use the entirety of the system for their entire existence. Rich invest in it and keep it healthy.
Perhaps those that utilize the system the most just to stay alive should pay more.

Bretton Woods is the reason why you need to spend so much on your military. Post WW2 the US decided that it wanted the US dollar to be the world's reserve currency, and the best way to keep the US dollar as the most powerful currency is to project its military power upon other competing nations. Hence the reason you've probably never heard of the Chinese Renminbi or Yuan... If you're the biggest world power, you need to have the capacity to both set and enforce the rules for everyone else. Hence the reason you have ridiculous military defense spending. If you don't, you don't control the global economy anymore.

What a retarded take. Btw, I’m not against the rich. I don’t care if successful people gain wealth. I’m also aware that I won’t reach that level of wealth, nor is it something I want to attain. I want to be able to afford a house, go on vacations a few times a year, maybe start a family. With all that wealth you gain, you also gain more responsibility, which I don’t care for. I’m fine with having a blue collar job that pays well enough to have a life like those middle class people from back in the day. What you and many others don’t seem to understand is the wealth disparity keeps increasing. They keep getting richer. While the rest of us remain stagnant or worse. This isn’t about taxing them to 100%. This is about raising their taxes enough to where things in this country are taken care of, along with the tariffs. So that a middle class can be born again. A middle class wage in the 60’s was about 10k. You know how much that is in today’s money? 100k. So yes, things are entirely fucked without a middle class.

Rich people don’t stash their money. They invest their money into a whole bunch of shit to increase their assets while using loopholes in order to pay the least amount of taxes they can. Elon doesn’t have 300 billion dollars sitting in a bank. His entire net worth which is mostly assets is 300 billion. However when he has his money tied up into investments and other things while using assets as a purchasing power and counting those things as losses, he’s taking advantage of a tax loophole that basically states he made little to no money that year and then is able to claim a lower taxable amount. It should be a scam but thanks to the government, it’s just a gray area for them.

Every multi-millionaire and billionaire should be taxed 90% of their entire net-worth.

Go to prison and be charged with corruption, all your assets seizes and be charged with treason for attempting to leave and move companies out of the country for cheaper labor.
