the thing is.. sucrose is a covalently bonded disaccharide. It requires an enzyme to break into it's constituent glucose and fructose. This gives your body a little bit of regulatory control over how fast it absorbs the sugar. Not saying sucrose is healthy, we still eat too much sugar in general, but it at least reduces the absorption rate if it has to be metabolized by an enzyme first.
HFCS on the other hand, is just a mix of the constituent monosaccharides. People who defend HFCS claim since it's the same monosaccharides it's nutritionally the same.
The difference is no enzyme is required your body has no regulatory control over how much of the sugars it absorbs, it's basically 100% instant absorbed. To further make matters worse, fructose in high concentrations contributes to insulin resistance directly.

Sucrose is 50% glucose and 50% fructose
Gram for gram sucrose you get 5% more glucose and 5% less fructose basically, which fructose is converted to glucose but free fructose is associated with increased insulin resistance.
The need for sucrase to break down is not night and day difference, IE you can't just drink mexican coke with impunity and not get fat, but it does slow it down a little.

That's just bullshit. First of all cane sugar aka table sugar aka saccharose is sweeter, so you need less of it to achieve same level of sweetness -> you can get same sweetness of product with less calories -> less fat people.
Also fructose which corn syrup almost entirely is, is one of the fastest metabolizing sugars, meaning it spikes your blood sugar faster and will spike your insulin levels and done repeatedly, will cause type 2 diabetes.
