Intel fires 5000 US workers

Intel more than doubled its layoff estimates for Santa Clara and Folsom to a total of 1,935 affected employees, according to California WARN filings.

The cuts began taking place in Folsom on July 11, and in Santa Clara on July 15.

the game these AI companies are playing is bilking huge amounts of VC money as fast as they can. I know tenstorrent has an insane burn rate, I doubt they've made any profit yet. I've heard that keller left there or joined the board of yet another CPU company (ahead computing), also started by a bunch of ex-intel folks. without doxing myself, I used to work with a few of the founders/early hiers years ago. How he avoids the conflict of interest is beyond me.

Real answer is that they invested for over a decade into radical experimental tech that ended up not working out. As a result TSMC was able to surpass them and Intel has failed to catch up since then because there aren't enough new chip engineers outside of Taiwan.

Intel is a great investment rn
Huge marketshare, stock price down in the shitter, two nodes well underway and one already getting good yields. A good CEO running things. This is a 2x stock in the waiting, double so because its a strategic asset for the US
