Reddit spacing is called that because redditors use that retarded line to try to fit in. God forbid somebody tries to structure and organize the text they've put effort into, instead of making it an unreadable wall of text.

Reddit didnt even exist yet when people were doing this. "Reddit spacing" was a relatively new forced meme from around 2012-2013 or so. From 2004-2011 most posts on 4chan had the double line spacing and this was especially true for paragraphs. Only greentext stories lacked line spacing, and even those only began apearing in 2010, and every other post used proper formatting including the line spacing when applicable.

At some point reddit replaced Gaia online as "the enemy community" and some newfag autist raged about it and derailed every thread he could accusing people from reddit, citing the line spacing of all things. It kind of grew form a single autist's tantrum on a slow Tuesday afternoon into an unwritten "rule" that you shouldn't do it.
