Its the folks they were collecting the blackmail lists for that arrested them once the operation could not function anymore and had to be dismantled via cover-up. Epstein and Maxwell were basically de-activiated once they had served their purpose.

But they were privy to it so that is their get out of jail free card. Now of course what you will suggest now is the Epstein part of this blackmail scheme didn't involve the sort of powerful people that could warrant epstein and Maxwell using that info as leverage.
